The Smoke.
The Mystery.
The Man.

They say every city has a story. Ours starts with a whisper of smoke and the unmistakable snap of a Zippo in the dark. That's where you'll find Detective Watson — trench coat collar up, fedora low, and a cigar always lit with more meaning than fire.

Why Noir Cigar?

From the Desk of Detective Watson

They say every stick's got a story. Some lie. Some smolder. And some? They whisper secrets only a detective can hear.

Name's Watson. I don't chase headlines — I chase cigars. I read the burn line like a case file, interrogate the draw like a suspect, and flick the ash when it's time to move on. Every puff tells me something. And I tell it straight — no fluff, no hype, just smoke, shadow, and truth.

Noir Cigar started when I realized the reviews out there felt more like instruction manuals than mystery novels. No style. No grit. No soul. So I lit a cigar, stepped in front of the camera, and let the trench coat do the talking.

But here's the thing…

Yeah, Watson's a character. But the cigars, the stories, the vibe — they're all real. Maybe he's just a voice, a fedora, and a flicker of black-and-white light… but he's also me. Through him, I get to act, create, light up incredible cigars, meet unforgettable people — and maybe, if fate's feeling frisky, bump into a new dame with a lighter in one hand and questions in the other.

So pour yourself a drink. Light one up. We've got cases to crack — and the truth is somewhere in the smoke.

The Case That Started It All

Noir Cigar began the way many great mysteries do: with frustration, curiosity, and one hell of a good stick. What started as a casual love for cigars became something more — a realization that most cigar reviews were too technical, too bland, or too self-important. There was no style. No edge. No character. And so the question arose: What if cigar culture had its own detective?

Thus, Noir Cigar™ was born — a fusion of classic film noir storytelling and modern cigar culture. A brand built not just to rate cigars, but to entertain, investigate, and immerse viewers in a world where every review feels like a scene from a lost black-and-white reel.

The Man Behind the Trench Coat

Scott Watson has been smoking premium cigars for over 30 years. As a professional cigar aficionado and certified sommelier, his job is to review hundreds of cigars so he can make precise recommendations to individuals based on their flavor profile, smoke time, event context, and pairing.

Scott is Davidoff certified (Herrera Estelí certification coming soon), a former El Septimo brand ambassador, and currently manages two lounges for the 50-year-old Emerson Cigar brand. This requires smoking 3–6 cigars daily to stay current on the latest releases — because when Scott recommends a cigar, it's based entirely on his own taste and understanding of the industry. Not someone else's review.

More Than Just a Smoke

Today, Noir Cigar™ is a growing universe: cinematic short-form reviews, original music, curated merch from The Smolder Shop, and live appearances where the detective steps off the screen and into your lounge. But at its core, it remains what it started as — a love letter to cigars, storytelling, and the smoky charm of old-school cool.

Whether you're a long-time aficionado or new to the leaf, welcome to the case files. The truth is out there — somewhere between the cut, the light, and the last draw.

About Detective Watson

Who is Detective Watson?

Detective Watson is the noir persona of Scott Watson, a Virginia Beach-based professional cigar sommelier with over 30 years of experience. Scott is Davidoff certified, a former El Septimo brand ambassador, and currently manages two cigar lounges for the 50-year-old Emerson Cigar brand. He smokes 3–6 cigars daily professionally. The character is theatrical — the expertise is completely real.

How does Detective Watson rate cigars?

Watson uses the Trench Coat Rating System™ — a five-level proprietary scale. Five Trench Coats is Legendary (given rarely). One Trench Coat means don't take the case again. Every cigar is evaluated on construction quality, cold draw, burn consistency, flavor complexity and transitions, and overall story and experience. Watson doesn't use a 100-point scale because five honest categories tell you more than a number ever could.

Is Noir Cigar affiliated with any cigar brands?

Noir Cigar™ is an independent editorial entertainment brand. Watson's verdicts are never for sale. While we participate in affiliate programs with select cigar retailers — and disclose this on every relevant page — all reviews are conducted completely independently. No positive review is guaranteed. Ever.

Can I submit my cigar for a case file review?

Yes. Submit a minimum of 6 cigars (2 for filming, 2 for the review process, 2 for consistency testing) for a full Noir Cigar™ investigation. Watson evaluates every submission with the same process regardless of brand size or budget. Visit the Investigate Our Services page to open your case.

Can I book Detective Watson for my event?

Absolutely. Watson is available for live cigar lounge appearances, private events, corporate hosting, and full noir event production. Guest Spot appearances start at $750 for 2 hours. Full productions start at $2,500. Visit Hire the Detective to open your booking case file.
